In order to bypass the risks of inaccurate historical records, and in order to enumerate the origins of the Batxellí surname, Y-DNA can be used as a genetic proof of the lineage (or lineages).
What Y-DNA is
Y-DNA is DNA that codes for the Y chromosome, is passed from father to son, with slight and rare mutations every few generations. Due to this direct paternal line, it is useful for surname research as it follows the same path as the paternal surname.
Only biological males possess the Y-chromosome. Due to this, only a biological male can take a Y-DNA test. Non-biological males can ask relatives who have a surname related to Batxellí to take a Y-DNA test.
